Palm Springs: A Day in the Desert
A Day in the Desert: Palm Springs
If you are in Southern California, and looking for the perfect day trip, look no further! Palm Springs here we come!
I love the desert and Palm Springs is the perfect ‘close-enough’ escape for a day (or even a long weekend). The mid-century modern architecture, colorful residents, and perfect weather make it the ideal spot to spend time relaxing and exploring. Read on for my tips and favorites in Palm Springs!
Winter is my favorite time to visit. The weather is perfect and the city is full of life. If your schedule is flexible, like mine, I suggest a Thursday, as the evening street fair, Village Fest, is one of the best in all of SoCal.
Lunch at The Saguaro Hotel:
The Saguaro is a true treat, inside and out. The hotel’s exterior is a bright, rainbow affair that makes you smile. Inside, the decor is equally playful and perfectly kitschy. Hints of neon, cacti, and bright walls offer photo-ops in literally every corner.
El Jefe, the Mexican restaurant inside the hotel offers a modern Californian twist on some cantina classics: nachos, vegan flautas, and quinoa salads all grace the menu.
Stop by the hotel for lunch or cocktails, and then take a walk around and capture some perfectly Instagrammable shots on the colorful grounds.
Admire Palm Springs Architecture
Strolling (or driving) through Palm Springs is a retro-lover’s fantasy. The colors, shapes, and landscape are like an endless parade of vintage perfection. You can drive through neighborhoods along the backside of Palm Canyon (the ‘main drag’ of Downtown) to get a glimpse into the glamour of old Hollywood’s favorite getaway.

Visit Moorten’s Botanical Gardens
Moorten’s Botanical Gardens is a treat for everybody! Tucked away in plain sight, right off the main road, it’s super easy to access. For just $5 you can take as long as you want, walking through and admiring all the different plants and cacti. Also, the garden is home to the world’s first cactarium on-site, where you can go inside and see a wide variety of cacti and other succulents.
If you are a content creator, or just love to have beautiful images for your personal collection or social media, this is a MUST SEE! There were so many fantastic photo opportunities everywhere. I know creating content can be a full-time job on its own, so this was a real treat! Additionally, if you want my top hacks for social media images check out this post!
I have a video up on YouTube with a quick overview of the Botanical Gardens and Cactarium. Click HERE to check it out!

Ok so I admit I totally failed to snap any quality photos during the Thursday night street fair, VillageFest. Additionally, since it only happens on Thursday, I know that it may be difficult for those visiting for just a day or weekend to attend. However, if you find yourself in town, its a MUST SEE!
Some of my top spots during Palm Springs VillageFest:
- Bristol Farms Cookie Stand: the famous cookies from this high-end regional grocer are warm and ready to share! Just $3 each and big enough for two!
- Lappert’s gourmet ice cream: all the good flavors and then some! Located permanently on the street so you can actually visit anytime! Bonus? they have Dole Whip! If you have read my post on the best foods at Disneyland, you know its one of my favorite things ever!
- Countless local bread makers, artists and of course DATES! (the dried kind, that is!)
I hope you enjoyed this post and will consider making a trip out to Palm Springs the next time you’re looking for a little adventure! Feel free to tell us your favorite desert spots in the comments, or pin this image to your Pinterest boards to save for later!
